The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam format is unique and probably different from other exams you’ve written. Because it tests how you will use English in all parts of your life, it assesses your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
You will need to perform a variety of tasks to show your knowledge and proficiency. Lessons to prepare for the IELTS can be useful in giving you a good idea of how to approach each section. Read on for how lessons can make you more confident and comfortable writing the IELTS test!
Improve Your English Listening Skills with IELTS Lessons
The listening section of the test assesses your ability to understand spoken ideas, information, opinions and attitudes. It also judges how well you can follow an argument’s development. In this part of the test, you will listen to native English speakers having a two-person conversation, giving a speech or monologue and discussing in a group of up to four people.
You will be asked questions to show how much you understood, with questions in various formats such as multiple choice, sentence completion, and diagram labelling. An IELTS course gives you support and tools to be able to handle these very different types of questions.
Work on Speaking English Through an IELTS College Course
Your speaking skills will also be tested using the IELTS. A certified examiner will hear you speak and will assess your ability to express and communicate opinions and information. You will be required to speak for a length of time while analyzing and discussing issues. You will also be evaluated on your ability to organize your ideas.
Taking a Course Can Improve Your Reading Skills in English
For the reading section, you will be expected to understand ideas, opinions, and attitudes of a piece of written text. Similar to the listening section, you will have to follow the development of an argument in written English.
Questions will ask you to match headings to texts or diagrams, complete sentences or fill in the gaps. You may also be asked open and multiple choice questions. IELTS college courses are designed to help you read text to extract information and develop an understanding of the material so that you are better prepared for this section.
Develop Your Written English by Studying with an IELTS Course
For your test, you will need to write responses with well-organized ideas and demonstrate your knowledge of English vocabulary and grammar. If you are training for the Academic IELTS, your tasks will include summarizing information in written English by analyzing a visual element like a graph or a diagram. You will also write an essay responding to an argument, perspective or issue.
