Homestay

Your second home

Why choose Homestay?

  • You are part of the family, not just renting a room

  • Safe and trusted, organised by British Council-approved agencies

  • Practise your English every day at home with your host family

  • Learn about British life and culture by living with locals

  • Feel welcome and comfortable during your stay in the UK

What is included?

  • Full access to the home

  • Laundry service available

  • A private room  - only single rooms currently available

  • A bedroom with natural light, with an adequately sized bed

  • Appropriate heating and lighting

  • Enough hanging and drawer space and storage for clothes

  • A table or desk and chair for studying (either in the bedroom or in the main part of the house)

  • A key to the house (for adults only)

  • A weekly change of towels and bed linens

  • Daily access to a bathroom with a bath or shower

Who is the family?

Host families are different.

They can be:

  • A single host mother

  • A retired couple

  • A family with children and pets

  • A professional couple offering a quiet place to stay

All families speak English at home and are kind and welcoming.

What to expect from the house?

  • Distance: homestays are 30-50 minutes from the city centre, with easy transport links (daily tickets cost about £5-£7).

  • Guests: there may be up to 3 other guests in the house, making it a small, friendly group – great for meeting new people

  • Meal options:

    • Self-catering: you prepare your own meals.

    • Half board: it includes a continental breakfast and a cooked dinner, usually shared with the family. Please note there is a small daily supplement for vegan, gluten free, lactose free and halal diets to reflect the extra food that the host will provide.
