Monday, 6 January, Ruler and Prime Minister of the UAE – His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum – announced the implementation of a five-year tourist visa that all nationalities can apply for. The hopes of such implementation are to boost and retain visitors to the UAE from all over the world. In return, this move is expected to also boost tourism economy and support the UAE as a global tourist destination. With Dubai’s long anticipated Expo 2020 event, coming in October, visitors can enjoy longer stays with ease.
Tourism isn’t the only UAE sector that’s projected to benefit from this change, but aviation, retail, and hospitality sectors as well. Longer stays means greater business benefits for the UAE’s economy. There are many benefits for residents as well, especially those with families seeking to visit. Residents won’t have to worry about applying multiple times for tourist visas for their families’ longer stays.
There are many questions that remain with this new change. How much will the visa cost, how long can the holders of the visa truly stay, how does one apply for it, and what are the regulations regarding this new visa? The answers to these questions will be revealed over the next month or so. This new scheme will be implemented over the next two months. Up until now, visitors have been granted 30 to 90 days only, so this is great news for many.
More details will follow for what this practically means for those seeking to spend some time in the UAE. It looks like the UAE will seek to continue to be a global destination for all peoples of the world. Our ruler, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, wants to promote tolerance and welcome and embrace everyone.
